Hello my quilty friends! Today's quilt is for Hands 2 help challenge from Confessions of a fabric addict. This is my 2nd year in joining Sarah for H2H.
This year I made this wonderful quilt and donated to a quilt shop that helps out a Nursing home in Saline MI. The quilt shop is The Quilting Season and if you are in the Saline Mi area, be sure to check it out.
Mary the sweet owner of the shop is always writing in her weekly Newsletter about Whitehall nursing home and how bleak the place is, the residents have not much from the sounds of it if looks very institutional. plain brick walls and not much going on. Mary is always doing some thing to brighten up the place and bring a little cheer to the residents. This last weekend she got a bunch of high school students and any one else that wanted to help out plant flowers to brighten up the gardens. For everyone that came to this event Mary made dinner so the residents as well as the workers could share bread together...Mary is a Fab cook too! Mary and her shop Have a Community involvement tab on her blog, she is always giving back to her community.
For my quilt I used the MSQ studio star tutorial and the fabric was a jelly roll that I did purchase from The Quilting Season over a year ago. I love the bright happy colors as well as the beautiful flowers.
Because I was on a budget this year, I could not ship my quilt and when I asked Sarah if I could donate to any charity she said of course! I choose the nursing home because both of my parents had to spend the last part of their life in one.
I pick this beautiful green gingham for the backing. It was also quilted with a vine design by my dear friend Diane over at Creative stitching services.
I am so happy that I could brighten someones day and room with something that I love to do, quilting!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks to Sarah for coming up with this wonderful way to help people out.
Until I see you again wishing you quilty hugs~ Heide
